Feat. James Woods, Debbie Harry
Aroview: Cable TV programmer James Woods enters a dark netherworld of psychosis and pornography as he searches for the ultimate thrill. He may have just found it in the media-generated form of newscaster Debbie Harry. A kinky, confronting work.

4 stars (Very Good) Almost as "Burroughs" as Cronenberg's later Naked Lunch, this disturbing commentary of reality television is nightmarish and gristly, with highly controversial subject matter and outstanding special effects for 1979. ~Tom H
4 stars (Very Good) Very cool practical fx decorate a bizarre "violent entertainment as boogie man" narrative. Some people may be bothered by the ambiguous narrative and hyper violent imagery, but I was more bothered by James Woods. ~Pop&Coffee
4 stars (Very Good) ~Regando
4 stars (Very Good) Really cool but a bit of a let down, its surely deserving of its cult status. The ideas it presented and straight up philosophy behind characters was sweet as. ~Biggie
4 stars (Very Good) one of my favorite David Cronenberg films ~Wyatt Earp
3 stars (Good Enough) Not all the scenes work but those that do should leave an impact. What can't be denied is its originality and the high standard of its special effects make it memorable. ~Tubbs

5 stars (Exceptional) How does a movie about videotapes and cable TV remain so relevant in 2024? Extraordinary, genuinely visionary, featuring a career-best performance by James Woods. The New Flesh still seems new, even after many imitations (some by Cronenberg himself). ~Pearce
