Accomplished examination of the great painter whose troubles share equal weight with her work throughout. Director Neel punctuates the talking heads with rough and ready archival footage and well shot samples of Alice Neel's work. As much a portrait of a bohemian life and the effects on family as it is on the artistic process this is a rewarding and at times moving watch.
