Story of the Kelly Gang, The

Australia 1906, 70 minutes
Dir. Charles Tait
Rating: [G]
Genres: Classics / Silent Cinema

Aroview: Thought to be the world’s first ever feature film, this dramatic recreation of the Ned Kelly outback legend stands as a remarkable artifact of Australian and Silent Cinema.

Billed at the turn of the century as the longest film ever made, it preceded D.W.Griffith’s BIRTH OF A NATION by nine years. What’s left of the film today has been restored lucidly by the Australian National Film & Sound Archive.
