Helvetica (2006)
Lovely and informative. The other Hustwit documentaries (Objectified and Urbanised) are a little broader, and less idiosyncratic than this one; but that is part of its charm.
New York: A Documentary Film (1999-2003)
Very much in the Burns family style of documentary, this is a worthwhile watch. Illuminates some great characters and periods in New York's history.
For All Mankind (1989)
Using recollections and images from all missions, Al Reinert creates an arc from launch to landing to re–entry, and captures the emotions of the astronauts, and not the science. Just a tad epic. The sound track by Brian Eno and collaborators is also epic.
Civil War, The (The American Civil War) (1989)
An education about the scars on the US psyche in 9 episodes. Particularly poignant after the election of a black president.
