Kaikohe Demolition
A glimpse into the mirth, mayhem and pathos of provincial New Zealand, this concerns a group of unkempt Northland residents who relish their opportunity to compete in the Kaikohe Demolition Derby.
The dir. of WOODENHEAD takes a fairly conventional documentary standpoint, but still fixes on the odd points of this engrossing pastime, in which near-derelict cars are reanimated with love and creativity only to be quickly pulverised. Perhaps most enduring are the scenes of good-natured banter in which locals unwind at the local hot pools.
