Snake Pit, The

Aroview: Hollywood melodrama that gives serious attention to the subject of mental illness with Olivia de Havilland (in a career-best performance) as a young, married woman whose irrational behaviour sets her on a slow road to recovery in a state mental institution.

Though elementary by today's standards, this was once groundbreaking in its progressive, liberal approach to its subject that was predisposed to the idea that the illness can be curable with the right attention.
