Aroview: Attempting to “re-imagine” (rather than merely ape) the 1968 original, dir. Burton ups the ante with fiercer simians and darker stylistics, but the now-notorious plot deficiencies weaken the effect almost fatally.
Things start promisingly in the year 2029, with Mark Wahlberg going in search of a missing (genetically-enhanced) chimpanzee space-pilot, before things start to get hairy.
