Examined Life

USA 2008, 88 minutes
Dir. Astra Taylor
Rating: [Exempt]
Genres: Documentary

Topics: Philosophy.

Aroview: Playful philosophy documentary taking an influential cross-section of thinkers outside of the usual academic settings, and conversing with them in locations that creatively resonate with the topics of discussion, which include individualism, disabilities, death and revolution. Slovenian cultural philosopher Slavoj Zizek discussing the recycling of ecological ideology at a garbage heap is a stand-out.

Other philosophers featured are Cornel West, Avital Ronell, Peter Singer, Kwame Anthony Appiah, Martha Nussbaum, Michael Hardt, and Judith Butler (who is accompanied by director Astra Taylor's sister and disability activist Sunaura Taylor).
