“A gloriously badass breath of fresh air”~The Guardian
Aroview: A charismatic warrior Princess must leave her mythical island paradise and sail into 20th century Europe to confront the "God of War". The film looks spectacular and includes some memorable battles. However, the 135 minute script is bloated with long doldrums including; standing around contemplating good and evil, going shopping for clothes, and Chris Pine clearing his throat for a laugh. Thematically, the film never quite decides if humanity is inherently violent, or if we are all victims of a supernatural influence.
Hailed with the highest box office gross of any female directed film. The "Men's Rights" brigade soon targeted the film online with a grotesque assault on the Hollywood "agenda". The culture war surrounding the film has since undermined any real criticism of the film itself.
