Orchestra Seats

aka: Fauteuils d'orchestre
France 2006, 100 minutes
Dir. Daniele Thompson
In English, French with English subtitles
Genres: Foreign Cinema, Drama

Aroview: A fetching French soufflé with a keen eye for Parisian charms, this dainty bohemian offering follows an appealing ensemble cast headed by café waitress Cecile de France, an aspiring actress determined to score the lead in a movie produced by a visiting Hollywood director (played by Sydney Pollock).

Elsewhere, the movie cues to its various overlapping threads: a famous soap star appears in a production across the street from the café; a major concert pianist is in despair; a businessman’s beloved art collection is about to be sold off. Though touching base with the significance of art in each character’s life, this is resolutely an airy, melancholic affair, content to satisfy with its proven milieu of quintessential Euro chic.
