Aroview: Popular mainstream comic Adam Sandler takes a left turn for the director of MAGNOLIA and BOOGIE NIGHTS in this doggedly off-beat yet beguiling romantic comedy.
Extending his goofy screen persona in more surreal directions, he plays a socially awkward toilet plunger salesman with seven domineering sisters, who increasingly has trouble containing his violent impulses. A crisis of transformation begins when attractively goofy Emily Watson enters his life and offers him unconditional love.
Although not quite a knockout, this strays far enough from the usual romantic cliches to stake out its own originality.

4 stars (Very Good) Barry has some rather pronounced emotional issues that hinder him socially and is clueless when it comes to women, even though he happens to have 7 dominating sisters. A mainstream 'rom com' this is not. It's totally in a league all of its own.~GenXGirl
