Minority Report
Aroview: An exhilarating science fiction thriller that lavishly realizes (and embellishes) a Philip K. Dick short story with the corporate muscle and directing virtuosity of Steven Spielberg.
In credible actor mode, Tom Cruise is effectively cast as a bereaved law enforcer who finds himself on the receiving end of a revolutionary crime-fighting system that can anticipate crimes before they are committed. Extensive research lends the production and the improbable premise a grimly believable future landscape where exploitation, surveillance and consumerism have reached critical mass. Though the final act rescinds to Hollywood formula, this is the kind of 21st century film-making that shows the state of the artform is fast catching up with the imagination.

3 stars (Good Enough) Another Philip K Dick inspiration, Minority Report has an interesting premise and decent futuristic world, but the big-brother premise is all-too familiar now, and the action and chase become just a little too Hollywood towards the end. ~Tom H
2 stars (Good Try) The effects are what you would expect from a good special effects director. The SF plot encourages you to read the author but the overlong film loses interest in the SF after an hour & it becomes a boring actioner in which Cruise seems more comfortable. ~tubbs
