Aroview: World War 2: Matthew McConaughey and his submarine crew snatch a vital German spy machine, then find themselves trapped on a U-boat where all the signs on the valves are printed in Deutsch.

Lined up next to the cast of German submarine classic DAS BOOT, the crew of this tub come across as a bunch of toy soldiers. Yet its underwater scenes - the film's raison d'etre - still manage to capture much of the excitement and trapped-in-a-tin-can tension of its German predecessor. So shorter and less satisfying overall, but as explosive where it matters.
