Tea with Mussolini
Aroview: Dir. Franco Zeffirelli's childhood memoirs form the basis of this well-mannered period fancy that draws weight from the grand Dames of British theatre, Judi Dench, Joan Plowright and Maggie Smith.
As Brit expatriates in pre-war Italy, the disparate trio get nudged out of privilege and complacency as Mussolini prepares for war, and the fate of a New York Jewish socialite (Cher) comes to rest in their balance. Long on nostalgia and short on political complexity, this is nevertheless just the ticket for seasoned tea drinkers.

3 stars (Good Enough) Set in 30's Italy during Mussolini's rise to power, it's the story of a young outcast boy who's adopted by a group of five eccentric aging Englishwomen living in Florence. Light frothy comedy about far more serious subject matter! ~GenXGirl
3 stars (Good Enough) maggie steals the show from the stellar cast. ~Tubbs
5 stars (Exceptional) Wonderful performances from the great Dames of the British stage and surprisingly by Cher. Beautifully crafted film using the special, soft light of Italy the comedy is a clever veneer to expose Nazi evil. ~rakau
