Last of the Blonde Bombshells, The

UK 2000, 84 minutes
Dir. Gillies MacKinnon
Rating: [M]
Genres: Drama, Comedy / Jazz & Blues

Topics: Late-life.

Aroview: Charming light drama about a recently-widowed Judi Dench who decides to revive her saxophone playing, eventually getting the idea to reunite her all-women swing band 'The Blonde Bombshells' who played in London during WWII.

The first band-member she encounters is drummer Ian Holm (who used to play in drag), with whom she teams up on a flirtatious search for the others, who are scattered far and wide (with one having ended up in prison). Nice performances from an all-star cast lift the rather unremarkable script, while the soundtrack is a pleasure for jazz buffs.
