Typical of writer Barry Gifford (WILD AT HEART), this is another endless, open stretch of dead straight road, littered with weird-on-top imagery from the wreckage of other movies. Obliged with an inventory of Tex-Mexicana, there's plenty of fire, voodoo, rape, murder, and expensive tracking shots, but no closure, no sub-text, no logic. We will concede, however, there's a certain perverse thrill in seeing Rosie Perez in ball-busting action.
