Origin
“Origin is so rich, expansive and wildly varied that one could easily see how DuVernay could have turned it into a mini-series. How great that she instead chose a compact and coherent feature.”~Tomris Laffly, TheWrap
Aroview: Written and directed by Ava DuVernay (Selma), this ambitious docu-drama chronicles the efforts of Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Isabel Wilkerson to investigate American racism and its connection to other hierarchies of human divisions that are not necessarily racial.
Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor (King Richard) is excellent as Isabel, who experiences profound personal losses as she crosses continents and cultures to craft one of the defining American books of our times: “Caste: The Origins of our Discontents”.

3 stars (Good Enough) Not easy to turn a book of historical analysis into a good story, but this succeeds. (NB: Stan Walker song over closing credits.) ~Shorty
4 stars (Very Good) Complex & sophisticated. Topical but very unusual. Always interesting. Incorrectly shows Dalits as a small minority but this caste makes up 17-32% of all Indians, 200 million in all. Disagree with claimed similarities of blacks, Jews & Dalits. ~Sandy
