Up in the Air
Aroview: A cautionary business tale wrapped in a frisky romantic comedy, with George Clooney starring as a compulsive traveller whose job it is to dismiss workers on behalf of their recession-struck employers.
Now more than just a pretty face, the sparkly-eyed star again attaches himself to an accessible entertainment with weighty contemporary concerns, and the director too returns to the confident territory of his business-ethics comedy, THANK YOU FOR SMOKING. Matching Clooney's smart sweet-talk, Vera Farmiga makes a vivacious gender-opposite, while Anna Kendrick's uptight new-kid-on-the-block provides a hilarious third wheel. As for the characters, so for the viewer - lots of carefree fun to be had the night before, but with a sobering message to be faced in the morning.

5 stars (Exceptional) Rom-com with a dash of politics, but it’s myopic to see this film purely in those terms. A rare instance of Hollywood living up to its own hype: it’s about a man trying to make a connection in a world increasingly built around superficial connectedness. ~SteveParkes
4 stars (Very Good) Clooney is sensational and this is an all around great movie, with lots of laughs and sobering turns. ~Wizzums
3 stars (Good Enough) The intelligent screenplay is at its best when Clooney and Kendrick are together although the small segment with JK Simmons is a gem. The film however climaxes too early and the final scenes lack steam. ~tubbs
