Blessed
Aroview: Four vivid stories of mothers and their children are interwoven in this confronting drama set in Melbourne's outer suburbs, blessed by the acting clout of three of Australia's best (and best known) contemporary actresses.
Confidently adapting a stage piece created by four different writers called "Who’s Afraid of the Working Class?", dir. Kokkinos first presents the unvarnished proceedings from the point of view of the children, and then in the second half shows the same events from the mothers' perspectives. While a pattern of neglect and selfishness pervades each scenario, the film is mercifully not without humour or hope.
