Aroview: Smitten with nostalgia for a bygone early-90's New York, this coming-of-age drama follows a listless, pot-dealing teenager as he attempts to get his life together before college.
Hailed as a bright young thing and scoring such talent as Ben Kingsley and Famke Janssen, writer-director Levine's second feature looks 'the bomb' for a low-budget indie and has an air of infectious youthful swagger, but his script quickly devolves into a mess of contrived quirky/edgy-ness (Kingsley) and cliched wish-fulfillment romance. The result is an over-pampered love letter from the director to himself.

2 stars (Good Try) It didn't work as well when Kingsley wasn't on camera and it could have done more with Famke Janssen and Jane Adams who were underused. The soundtrack was good. ~Tubbs
