Max Payne
Aroview: Another over-stylised blockbuster based on a video game, this stars Wahlberg as a particularly grim maverick cop on a mission of revenge to bring the killers of his family to justice.
Dubious origins aside, there are a few thrills to be had here: dir. Moore’s love of slow-mo particularly effective when concentrated on Walhberg’s massive shotgun, and the film noir-inspired aesthetic is a nice deviation from the usual technicolour of other video game adaptations. The film remains a predictably shallow beast, but at least does not betray its shallow source material.

2 stars (Good Try) Max Payne is one of the few video game stories that could have successfully been translated to film. Instead, this is a typical style-over-substance affair that wishes it was noir. Highlights are an office shootout and an extreme slow-mo shotgun blast. ~Tom H
2 stars (Good Try) Had a couple of worthwhile scenes but overall its disappointing. I'm not a fan of slow motion at the best of times - its insulting to the viewer's intelligence - this one takes the cake in that regard. ~Tubbs
