Derailroaded

USA 2005, 86 minutes
Dir. Josh Rubin
Genres: Documentary, Music / Pop/Rock

Topics: Mental Health.

Aroview: Eye-opening documentary of tortured musical genius, with Larry ‘Wild Man’ Fischer the journeyman of this rock odyssey into mental illness and self-destruction.

Releasing minor cult album ‘An Evening With Wild Man Fischer’ in 1968, no sooner had Fischer gained a record contract than he was out of the job, exiled after an infraction at the home of his benefactor, Frank Zappa. While accounting for Fischer’s subsequent hard times, the film even-handedly surveys two schools of thought: that the ‘Wild Man’ is either a brilliant, undiscovered talent, or an eccentric incapable of functioning in the music industry.
