Supplanting James Stewart’s wheelchair with newcomer Shia LaBeouf on ‘house arrest’, this rachets up a surprisingly sustained level of tension, supplemented by the scenario’s subtext in confinement and voyeurism. A refreshing change from current horror trends in sadism and torture, with old-school fright values and an appreciation of anxiety over gore.
