Dracula - Pages From A Virgin's Diary

Canada 2002, 71 minutes
Dir. Guy Maddin
Rating: [M]
Genres: Cult, Horror / Performing Arts, Dance

Aroview: Deeply evocative version of Bram Stoker's oft-filmed 'Dracula' novel based around a recent stage-show by the Winnipeg National Ballet (choreographed by Mark Godden) and re-imagined by dir. Guy Maddin (SADDEST MUSIC IN THE WORLD) in his tinted 'silent film' poetics.

Conveyed in grainy monochrome imagery complete with mock-romantic intertitles, the story of Van Helsing, Lucy and Count Dracula himself (played by diminutive Chinese actor Zhang Wei-Qiang) is rendered as an almost abstract play of emotion using extraordinary imagery and modern dance.
