Beat My Heart Skipped, The
Aroview: A star-turn by Romain Duris invigorates this deft remake of James Toback's 1978 thriller FINGERS, playing a reluctant young thug with a propensity for violence in evicting deadbeat tenants and squatters, which sits uneasily with his passion for playing classical piano.
When the chance of a valuable audition presents itself, he works to revive his keyboard skills, inexorably neglecting his gangster trade and finding suppressed inner demons coming destructively to the surface. Duris gives a more introverted reading of Harvey Keitel's 1978 lead character, and as a whole, the remake tends toward a satisfying dark Gallic romanticism.
