USA 2004, 90 minutes
Dir. Vondie Curtis Hall
Rating: [R16]
Genres: Drama / Gangsters

Topics: Indigenous & Minority Cultures.

Aroview: Above-average telemovie biopic about Stan 'Tookie' Williams (Foxx), founder of the notorious street gang, 'The Crips', who after years of imprisonment for multiple murder, reformed and became a passionate youth activist.

Foxx gives an expectedly rounded performance charting the gangbanger's rise on the streets, years in solitary confinement and collaboration with writer Barbara Becnel which led to his later fame (and nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize). Epilogue: although praised for his efforts, Williams was never paroled and in late-2005, was executed.
