Longest Yard, The

Aroview: Irreverent remake of the 1974 classic, in which a star grid-iron quarterback lands in prison and organises the inmates for a bone-crunching sports encounter with the prison guards.

Recast with Sandler and Rock in the leads, this kicks the original's amoral humour and political allegory over the sideline, replacing it with the broadest of comedic brushstrokes. Still, as far as gags and physical comedy goes, this ratchets up a decent score. Original star Reynolds returns in the role of the convict team's mentor.
