Aroview: A community of raccoon-like creatures called Tanuki battle to defend their forest community from encroaching human developers in another quality family movie from Studio Ghibli, featuring the expected rounded characters and beautiful animation.

The raccoons have various magical powers to help them, including the ability to change shape, and unusually for such an enjoyable family film, to do strange magical things with their testicles (referred to in the English dub as "pouches"). Incidentally, the title refers to the sound made by thumping the tummy of a comfortably full raccoon.

5 stars (Exceptional) Takahata has always experimented with different animation styles but in Pom Poko, he switches between many throughout the course of a single scene. It is much more accessible than its premise might suggest and full of joy even when it is bittersweet. ~Johnny
