I Am Trying To Break Your Heart

USA 2002, 92 minutes
Dir. Sam Jones
Rating: [M]
Genres: Documentary, Music / Pop/Rock, Country & Folk

Feat. Jeff Tweedy

Aroview: Solidly realised account of the making of ‘alt country’ band Wilco’s acclaimed “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot” album and near-unmaking of the band itself.

Shot in grainy b&w this depicts the band as ambitious, creative and experimental enough for Warner Bros to drop them from their label Reprise. This also catches the friction between members in several memorably uneasy scenes, one member’s sacking, their subsequent regrouping and the acclaim which met the album when finally released. Though not as revealing as it promises, this is a must for Wilco fans, with an entire bonus disc of live performances and music videos.
