In this entertaining deconstruction of the film noir genre, an ex-con (Fassbinder regular Harry Baer) struggles to go straight after his prison release. A visually stunning film in which the director is beginning to find his cinematic language, introducing trademark homoerotic themes along with a keen insight into social oppression and alienation.
