Synopsis: Documentary portrait of Paraguayan music teacher Fabio Chavez and his Recycled Orchestra of Cateura, a children's orchestra which performs with materials recycled from a rubbish dump near Asuncion. The film illustrates the transformative power of music as well as issues of poverty and waste pollution.
“The story behind it is so good that even some imperfect filmmaking can’t hold it back.”~New York Times
4 stars (Very Good) Setting somewhat reminiscent of the great Kurosawa film Dodes'ka-den (1970)-unforgettable. Lives of slum children whether Bombay, Tokyo, Ankara or Deir el-Zur (these last two my personal experiences) are well worth capturing on screen.~Sandy
