Aro Recommended Turbo Kid

Canada / New Zealand 2015, 93 minutes
Dir. Francois Simard, Yoann-Karl Whissell, Anouk Whissell
Rating: [R16] Graphic violence and offensive language
Genres: Cult, Science Fiction, Action/Adventure

Topics: Post-Apocalyptic.

“A pitch-perfect pastiche that never mocks its inspirations, the picture is silly fun to warm the hearts of aging fanboys.”~John DeFore, The Hollywood Reporter

Aroview: Recommended for teens with strong constitutions, this gory post-apocalyptic romp set in a desolate "alternate 1997" follows a comic book fan who dons the persona of his favourite hero to save his enthusiastic friend and fight a tyrannical overlord.

Offsetting some gruesome death matches with sweet comic misadventure from a bygone era, this chalk-and-cheese hybrid is gamely acted by the entire cast, with notable standouts from Michael Ironside's villain and Laurence Leboeuf's ditzy femme sidekick. Though essentially a Canadian product, it was co-financed by the New Zealand Film Commission.
