Aro Recommended How to Meet Girls from a Distance

New Zealand 2012, 85 minutes
Dir. Dean Hewison
Rating: [R13] offensive language and sexual references
Genres: Comedy / Black Comedy

Aroview: A "peeping-tom rom-com" with Richard Falkner surprisingly relatable as a well-intentioned stalker determined to woo the girl of his dreams.

Awarded a $100,000 production budget as winner of the "Make My Movie" competition, this well exceeded expectations of a film made to a six month deadline, with an infectious, spontaneous energy outweighing some of the compromises of its short production time. Jonathan Brugh as a sleazy "love coach" hilariously steals his scenes, while a great local indie-pop soundtrack and Wellington on a good day round this out as an especially parochial pleasure.
