Aroview: The creators of SHAUN OF THE DEAD and HOT FUZZ make a beeline for America's UFO heartland in this comedy about two sci-fi nerds who befriend a smart-alec alien.
The American setting (and director) sees writer-actor team Pegg and Frost watering down their brand of precocious, very English satire for mainstream consumption, and the result pushes all the comfy buttons of the quirky American road movie. Where HOT FUZZ was a refreshing spoof of anachronistic action movies, the Spielberg-meets-comic-convention universe that is referenced here is terra firma well trodden by other fan boy directors. Seth Rogen has the best part as the CGI-ed title character, though for those of us of a certain age the schtick feels hand-me-down from 80's TV ET's 'Mork' and 'Alf'.

2 stars (Good Try) A bit lazy. The script soon runs out of idea and then...there's a car chase. A Randy Quaid cameo might have improved it. For a truly funny sci–fi comedy, rent 'Galaxy Quest'. Pegg and Frost, see me after class. ~HiFi
