Aroview: Benefitting from the low-tech immediacy that made THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT chillingly effective (and hugely profitable), this assembles its own scary narrative from the home video recordings of a young couple who find their domestic life under siege by malevolent spirits.
Trading in the anticipation of fear more than fear itself, the simple camera-in-the-bedroom premise is inherently unsettling as the audience is invited - night after night - to bear witness to a series of escalating "bumps in the night". While it delivers as a new twist on creaky old conventions, suspension of disbelief is required to accept that the couple would repeatedly subject themselves to such an ordeal, or in fact that they would get any sleep at all. But why let that all that get in the way of a good spook story? It's guaranteed to scare the pyjamas out of impressionable minds.
