Twilight: New Moon

USA 2009, 130 minutes
Dir. Chris Weitz
Rating: [M]
Genres: Horror, Drama / Romance, Youth, Vampires

Aroview: Succulent second helping of the Stephanie Meyer vampire saga finds pasty Edward no longer able to protect his beloved Bella, fleeing the country and leaving her to the wolfish charms of rival hottie Jacob.

Featuring more pouts than you can shake a fringe at, this bare chested sequel sticks firmly to the brooding appeal of the novel while keeping its bloodsucking surprisingly in check. Kristen Stewart, carrying the film, is left to make depression look sexy, wallowing in breakup angst as her vampire and werewolf lovers wait in the wings. Decidedly hammy, though may win over a whole new audience with its fashionably indie soundtrack (hipper than the strictly emo rock ballads of the first movie) and departure from previously tweenish concerns (we fully expect the issue of vampire sex to be addressed in part three).
