Aroview: Two pretty teenage girls in Los Angeles (Hathaway, Phillips) become impatient with the wannabe-gangsta antics of their high-school boyfriends and foolishly decide to take up with a dangerous Latino drug gang on the other side of the tracks.
Promising much with its combination of cast, writer Stephen Gaghan (TRAFFIC, SYRIANA) and dir. Kopple (HARLAN COUNTY, U.S.A.), this can disappointingly present only an average insight into the mindset of its characters and the reasons for their bored and muddled young lives. Best points go to the cast for their mastery of the snide, bitchy idiom of Californian teens.

2 stars (Good Try) What's intended is reasonably obvious but no characters come across as being real and the posturing gets a bit silly and tiresome. One good scene is where both sides cock up their intended retribution on the other side. Watch "Kids" for more realism.~tubbs
