Family Stone, The

Aroview: More considered and better-written than the usual family Christmas comedy plot, this finds Mulroney bringing his fiance (Parker) to his clan's yuletide New England celebrations for a round of uncomfortable introductions, faux pas, and 'bite your tongue' moments.

With an excellently-cast collection of character types, this manages to strike many sparks as Parker's uptight New Yorker bruisingly collides with the looser (yet scarily judgemental) ways of her potential inlaws. Although concluding in a welter of tear-jerking twists, this has the depth to sustain its serious intentions.
