Aroview: On of the more thoughtfully charming Studio Ghibli films, this spins its tale around a bookish, just-turned-teenage girl growing into maturity through her love for a lad who wishes to be an Italian-trained violin-maker.
With only occasional flashes of fantasy or visual grandiosity, this easily fulfils its ambitions to render a more humanistic perspective and is well worth a quiet detour. One element of the film - an odd statue of a cat ('The Baron') - later instigated a spinoff feature, THE CAT RETURNS.

5 stars (Exceptional) My favourite Ghibli (that's saying a lot); one of my favourite films ever. A keen, unfussed view of the truths of everyday things, left full room to play by a quiet, bare–bones story.~fudaizhi
