Aroview: Another ‘future shock’ escapade from the creator of THE TRUMAN SHOW and GATTACA that this time taps a comic vein to convey the effect that a computer-generated movie star might have on her adoring public, a greedy industry and, especially, her movie director-creator, played by Al Pacino.

Like "Truman" in reverse, the conceit here is that nobody is aware that mysteriously reclusive Simulation One (aka Simone) is not made of flesh-and-blood, except Pacino, who goes to exhaustive, farcical lengths to protect his lucrative little secret. As writer, director and producer, talented expat Kiwi Andrew Niccol takes an admirable crack at the hand that feeds him, but can’t quite extend his interesting premise beyond that of an intriguing light entertainment.
