Aroview: After a hard night at the pub, Pete Postlethwaite greets the day transformed into a white rat, giving a nicely surreal twist to this surprisingly understated Irish comedy.

Wife (Imelda Staunton) and children, initially embarrassed, gradually turn matters to their advantage, as the film concentrates more on the droll comedy of the situation than the opportunities for special f/x.
