Debt Collector, The

Aroview: Billy Connelly plays it straight as former hard man who finds latter day respectability as a novelist and sculptor, but the resentful, dishonoured cop who once put him away is about to become a major thorn in his side. Playwright Anthony Neilson's debut has the feel of a British teleplay with the violence and profanity turned up, but it's mandate as a 'thriller' mean dramatic contrivances preside over character logic. Not unenjoyable as melodrama, though.
