Aroview: Historical romance that profits from a sensuous 16th century Venetian setting, as the low-prospect Catherine McCormack opts for the tradeoffs of life as a courtesan (and poet on the side), when a love-affair with Rufus Sewell is cut off. Hardly sophisticated, but with some interesting feminist subtexts.

2 stars (Good Try) The production values in set designs and wardrobe are very good but are repaid by a mundane and at times laughable script - this in turn casts doubt on what really did go on with the real life characters on which the plot is based.~tubbs
