Aroview: This creaky staircase descends into a spooky mansion of cantankerous matriarchs, mute nymphettes, 'weak' stepsons and impending murder. Dated, yes, but elegantly photographed and evocative and subtle in the tradition of Val Lewton productions like CAT PEOPLE.
