Aroview: Director Robert Eggers' fourth film is a remake of the 1922 film of the same name, also drawing from Bram Stoker's novel Dracula, which the 1922 film was itself inspired by. Bill Skarsgård plays the titular monster, alongside Nicholas Hoult as the young hero who is trapped in his castle, and Lily-Rose Depp as his bride-to-be who falls under the monster's spell.
The story has been told on screen a few times now, so feels a bit familiar; however this is still a phenomenal adaptation, thanks to its amazing atmosphere and visuals. Particularly striking are the Eastern European filming locations and the colour scheme, which is often on the cusp between muted colours and black-and-white, evoking the original. Like Eggers' earlier film The Witch it is also an immersive period piece, and is genuinely scary, with Nosferatu's voice being particular nightmare fuel.

2 stars (Good Try) It would have benefited from a shorter screenplay, but the art and design work is very good. ~Tubbs
