CBGB
Aroview: Biopic about the former New York music club CBGB, which opened in 1973 as a venue for country, bluegrass and blues but soon became ground zero for the punk rock and new wave movements.
Alan Rickman stars as the down-on-his luck Hilly Kristal, who gets the Lower East Side business off to a rocky start with the help of a loan from his mom, but sees little interest until he books early punk band Television, followed soon after by Blondie, Patti Smith, Talking Heads, and The Ramones - all played by actors lip syncing badly to the hits.
Despite the solid soundtrack, this film does a disservice to the punk movement - skip it and head straight for THE DECLINE OF WESTERN CIVILISATION, unless watching Rupert Grint play a member of the historically ignored underground punk band Rocket From the Tombs is too funny to pass up.
