Little Miss Marker

USA 1980, 103 minutes
Dir. Walter Bernstein
Genres: Classics, Comedy, Suspense/Crime

Aroview: Comedy set in the 30's, following a gloomy, cantankerous bookie (Walter Matthau) running a gambling operation, who finds himself with a 6-year old kid in his care after a desperate gambler hands her over as collateral before committing suicide.

An unlikely father-daughter relationship develops between them, and the bookie also finds himself warming to the girlfriend of his rival (Julie Andrews). A remake of the 1934 film of the same name, with an off-kilter feel, and Matthau playing to type as the rogue you can't help but root for.
