Dunwich Horror, The

USA 1970, 90 minutes
Dir. Daniel Haller
Genres: Horror / Paranorma, Deviltry

Aroview: Supernatural horror loosely adapting the novella of the same name by H.P. Lovecraft, which builds on the Cthulhu Mythos.

Set in the fictional Massachusetts towns of Arkham and Dunwich, where a man who is not quite human takes possession of the rare and priceless book known as the Necronomicon, just as a young student goes missing. It's up to a local occult expert to unravel a terrifying mystery involving cult brainwashing and ritual sacrifice.

Widely considered one of the better film adaptations of H.P. Lovecraft stories, which deviates from the Poe-inspired horror style of the time and into more adventurous psychedelic territory, building effectively on post-Manson Family cultural paranoia.
