Wide Blue Road, The

Aroview: Italian neorealist melodrama drama which marks the feature debut of Gillo Pontecorvo (THE BATTLE OF ALGIERS).

Set on a small rugged island off the Dalmatian coast, where a struggling fisherman goes to increasingly extreme lengths to support his family and defend his livelihood in the face of exploitation by the local wholesaler. Using a destructive method of fishing involving dynamite, he becomes socially ostracised in his efforts to fight poverty. A strong anti-capitalist fable with a nuanced lead performance from Yves Montand.
