Chess Player, The

Aroview: French silent film based on the novel by Henry Dupuy-Mazuel, set in the 18th century, during the Russian domination of Polish Lithuania. After a failed uprising against Russian forces, an inventor conceals a wanted patriot inside a chess-playing automaton called The Turk, which ends up in the hands of the Russian Empress Catherine II.
